Express Gratitude

How do you express gratitude? Do you tell the person? Write a note? Do something in turn? Gratitude comes in many forms, but there’s no better feeling than having someone sincerely share their gratitude with you or sharing yours with them.

Share gratitude everyday…

How to Get Noticed at Work

Who are you at work? The quiet one that comes in on time, works hard with their head down, and does what’s expected? Or, are you working hard to make your way up the ladder and make some waves?

Both types of employees are very different, but both could be working toward the same goal of getting noticed at work. Most of us want to be noticed, recognized and rewarded. This may come in different forms — a promotion, raise, or simply just to reaffirm that we are doing a good job.

Some ways that GobieWorld (our career services arm at GobieGreat) suggests to get noticed:

  • Ask how to help your manager
  • Ask how to improve your work
  • Go above and beyond on your projects
  • Take initiative
  • Build rapport
  • Be a team player
  • Speak up
  • Do more than your job description
  • Help your colleagues to succeed

What do you do at work to get noticed? #GobieGreat today and everyday!

How To Be More Productive

Who doesn’t want to be more productive? We all have a laundry list of things we have to do, so why not be more efficient while doing it?

Some tips on being more productive:

  • Use timers while working
  • Do the difficult things first
  • Turn off email and other notifications
  • Work in chunks of time and take set breaks — These breaks will help you to work straight through, knowing that you have a scheduled reprieve!
  • Plan your day at the beginning of the day, and again at the end. Check in on your progress midday
  • If you have an office, close your door
  • If noise bothers you, pop in your earphones and listen to something that helps you focus
  • Stay away from social media and messaging with friends

This is just the tip of the iceberg. What do you do to stay productive at work?

Manage Your Environment to be More Productive at Work

Doesn’t it just feel better going to sleep at night with a tidy bedroom? I totally feel the same way about my work space. If you knew me, you’d know that I am by no means a clean freak, but there’s something about having your work space ‘just so’ at the beginning of a work day that helps me to kick ass!

Here are some ways to control your environment, straight from my desk to yours…

DESK – Clean of clutter, if you have papers or other things, give everything a place. When it’s picked up, it looks clean. Make sure that you have space to do the things that you need to do. I know that I need space for my mouse, room for my water, coffee mug and French press. I also take pen to paper a few times a day, so I need space for my notebook so I can write comfortably, too. I love having a window. I work alone, so it keeps the day from being a bore. Maybe photos help you, or pictures of dream trips, or even knick-knacks. I have some of my favorite things that I like to surround myself with. And, a timer! A classic kitchen timer or go old school with an hourglass. If nothing else, it’s a reminder to stay on task!

SOUND – What you hear while you’re working definitely has an effect on how you work. What you want to hear is different for everyone. The most important thing here is to try to control what you hear. Close your doors, turn on the tunes, or put on some noise-cancelling headphones if you want no noise. Some of my favorites are listening to movie scores (not soundtracks, only the instrumental), music in foreign languages (doesn’t mess with me when I’m trying to write) or I listen to SimplyNoise, a white noise-maker.

SMELL – If you’re sensitive to smells, you’ll want to pay attention to this, too. The smell of lavender really soothe you? Get a diffuser for your office and keep things zen.

Hopefully these tips on managing your work space can help you. What tips can you share?
